Executive Director of Ticket Policy Forum Brian Berry issued the following statement in response to today’s passage of the RESALE Act in Washington, D.C.:
“While the RESALE Act does provide some important consumer protections, it is otherwise laden with Ticketmaster’s wish list – none of which will result in lower costs for fans. It also poses a real threat to the unprecedented legal progress Attorney General Schwalb is making in breaking up the illegal monopoly’s dominance in D.C.
“The question has never been whether consumers deserve strong protections; they do. The question is how to achieve them. The answer is greater transparency, stronger competition, and consistent rules that apply across the entire ticket ecosystem, not bills like the RESALE Act that reduce choice, increase fraud, and ultimately keep control of ticket prices in the hands of the very monopoly Washington, D.C.’s own AG is working to dismantle.”
